What is self care?

Until I was recovering from my endometriosis surgery, I had never really paid attention to the concept of self care. I had heard the term once or twice and it definitely seemed like the newest buzzword for mental health.

I was lying in the hospital bed, barely able to move my body and I was thinking about my life. That’s the first time I’ve realized that I’m broken, my body is broken, I have severe stage of endometriosis and I have to live with this disease for my entire life.

That moment I had no idea what self care really means and why it’s important.

But I knew that I need to change something.

During my recovery I was lucky to stay at home for six months. I found some amazing books that really helped me realize what self care is and why is important for me especially to keep me positive and healthy enough to fight with endometriosis.

True self care is not all bubble baths and manicures. It’s a way to improve or sustain your mental health that has three parts – physical, mental and emotional self care. All these three parts of self care are equally important.

This is where the self care kit comes in!
