homemade hand cream

An easy hand lotion recipe for all skin types

This easy homemade hand cream without beeswax is lightweight, absorbent, and not greasy.  This hand lotion recipe is fantastic, and it’s one of the first homemade hand moisturizers I have ever made. Aside from being considerably cheaper than commercial store-bought creams, you’ll find it gentler and often more effective on your skin. You can apply the DIY hand cream often throughout the day. I always carry a small container in my purse and use it a little whenever my hands feel dry.

You can make this homemade hand cream with or without beeswax. Your decision may be due to cost or concern over the bee industry. Both options will yield a luxurious cream to soothe your hands with.

This non-greasy DIY hand lotion helps nourish and moisturize the hands while providing hydration and improving skin health.

What would you use instead of beeswax?

To make homemade hand cream without beeswax, use the same amount of candelilla wax instead. This plant-based wax is a vegan alternative to beeswax and is perfect for making DIY vegan lotion.

Soy wax is also an alternative for environmentally conscious or vegan consumers. While most cosmetic products use at least some animal waxes (such as beeswax), soy wax offers a non-animal-based solution to help with the cosmetic creation process.

You can also use Carnauba wax.

How to make homemade hand cream without beeswax

Are you ready to whip up a batch of chemical-free hand cream for dry hands? Here are my best tips to make on how to make DIY organic hand cream at home from scratch:

Prepare the oil phase

To avoid destroying nutrients, melt the hard ingredients in a low-heat water bath. To set up a water bath, fill a pot one-third with water and bring it to a rolling boil. Reduce the heat to a gentle simmer and place a heat-proof bowl on the pot.

Chill the mixture

Once all solids have become liquid, remove from heat and allow to cool for about 2 minutes.

Whipped DIY hand lotion

Whipping is necessary to combine the oils, and I like to use a handheld immersion blender with a balloon whisk for this task. Slowly pour the argan and jojoba oil into the warm oils while mixing at the lowest speed.

Chill the mixture again.

Let the mixture cool for 10-15 minutes. You can put the hand cream in the fridge to solidify the oils.

Beat again

After 10 minutes, add the essential oils and continue to whip the mixture at the highest speed for 10 minutes. The hand cream should look white and fluffy and feel soft and creamy.

Storage and shelf life

You can store the homemade hand cream without beeswax at room temperature for up to 3 months. It’s best to keep the hand cream away from direct sunlight, heat, and moisture.

More about the ingredients

The homemade hand cream without beesewax recipe is easy to prepare and only made with natural ingredients, free of synthetic fragrances and preservatives. To ensure this DIY hand lotion is non-greasy, I only chose materials that are absorbed quickly into the skin.

Shea Butter

We all know how good these kinds of butter are at moisturizing and trapping moisture into the skin. They are often the go-to for most skincare formulations, and why wouldn’t they be as they are suitable for all skin types? They can relieve dry, itchy, irritated skin and reduce red blotchy marks while nourishing and restoring your skin.

Argan Oil

Argan oil is a natural moisturiser because it is rich in vitamins A and E. Because it’s rich in vitamin E, Oleic acid, and Linoleic acid, Argan oil is an excellent moisturizer that deeply moisturizes and hydrates dry skin. Unlike lotions, Argan heals dry skin from the inside out for a healthy, smooth texture and appearance.

Jojoba Oil

Jojoba oil, a liquid wax very similar to human sebum, creates a lipid film on the skin and locks moisture, making your hands soft and supple. Hypoallergenic jojoba oil fights the signs of skin ageing and has excellent anti-inflammatory and healing properties.

Candelilla Wax

Candelilla wax is non-comedogenic, so it won’t clog pores and is safe to use on oily skin types. It also contains a rich amount of Vitamin A – which promotes cell regeneration and is touted as being beneficial to sunspots and aging skin.

Candelilla Wax is reputed to help reduce the appearance of stretch marks and signs of aging, such as wrinkles and age spots. Furthermore, it hydrates parched and scaly skin for enhanced smoothness.
