If you read my blog posts you probably have noticed that in 2018 I met an incredible Italian homeopath who gave me another way to treat my endometriosis symptoms. Click here to read about my favorite natural treatments for endometriosis.

Today I would like to share with you my experience with an ancient treatment for the uterus that was exactly the solution I was looking for – yoni steam for endometriosis

For years, I dreaded my monthly cycle and all that came along with it – from the painful cramps to the fatigue. Endometriosis ruined my life, especially when it was time for my period. Endometriosis sent me running for the warm refuge of my bedroom for an entire week or more each month because I often felt heavy, bloated, and overwhelmed. I began to hate my body and my entire life. When you live with endometriosis you know that you shouldn’t consider “normal” to suffer so much each month.

Over the past year, I have been through so many life changes and health issues. I know that it’s difficult to find a pain relief that works for you but you need to try…because there are so many natural remedies for women’s health and endometriosis. And yoni steaming does help with endometriosis. Not only for the pain but also for the menstrual cycle, womb, and…. Sex. Yoni steaming is essential when it comes to self-care and yoni steam is good for women with endometriosis.

I have dealt with various menstrual issues and fertility challenges in the past. I have accepted these challenges as facts of life, but what I’ve learned is that it’s not necessary to constantly be suffering from one thing or another. These are just signs that I’ve fallen out of balance with my system, my body.

So today, I’ve decided to share my own experience with yoni steam for endometriosis and all the benefits of this ancient and really relaxed practice.

WHAT IS YONI STEAMING

Also known as vaginal steaming, the treatment uses medicinal plants (yoni steam herbs) to cleanse, heal and tone the uterus, which in turn reduces discomfort associated with menstruation and comes with a whole host of other benefits.

A yoni steam (aka. vaginal steam or V steams), is an old womanly healing art and they are becoming popular again. They are certainly part of the Maya healing lineage and used mainly to cleanse the uterus when there are menstrual difficulties, after birth, and with menopause to completely clean the womb when finished bleeding. They are popular in Central America, India, eastern Europe, and Korea where women use them regularly as part of their hygiene.

This women’s treatment gently and effectively cleanses, tones, and revitalizes a woman’s center, providing benefits from reduced menstrual cramps to increased fertility. Yoni steaming is said to support one’s natural feminine cycle (supporting releasing of dark blood at the beginning or end of the menstrual cycle), and help you to heal (it is said to help with endometriosis, pelvic pain, uterine prolapse, constipation, and PCOS), relax, and detoxify both physically and emotionally.

Yoni steaming was exactly what I needed to treat my monthly menstrual woes. After steaming with some amazing yoni steam herbs (the best herbs for endometriosis) just once per week for four months, my cramps, heavy flow, bloating, and exhaustion virtually disappeared. I felt lighter, healthier, and more energetic. And the sex was more juicy. There are different types of yoni steam herbs that you can use, I will talk about that later.

ALTERNATIVE TREATMENTS FOR ENDOMETRIOSIS: WHY YONI STEAMING

Women with conditions affecting their pelvic health, such as endometriosis, can get really disconnected from their uterus, their wombs, the female part of themselves.

I really like to encourage women who regularly suffer from endometriosis to do vaginal steaming. I know this had some mixed reviews in the mainstream press in the last couple of years, but I can assure you it’s not for cosmetic purposes.

Vaginal steaming is about vaginal and female health and most women who do it say is that it is deeply nourishing, relaxing, and releasing. I am a real advocate for it and like to remove the veil and demystify it wherever I can – it is totally accessible to all women and is not something to be afraid of.

I am happy to say that my results so far are amazing. I used to have excruciating painful periods, to the extreme that I would have to stop what I was doing and lie down in a fetal position. The pain was so bad it would literally stop me in my tracks and basically ruin my day. I hated having to go to work when I had my periods. Not to mention my flow was so heavy, I would bleed through my clothing.

I even tried heat and massage to help soothe the pain. Pain meds were the last result that I had to take to get through my work shift. Now, after using the yoni steams a few times I am happy to say my periods are a breeze. They are lighter than they were, less gushing, very minimal discomfort. I went from using a tampon and double pads to just one pad.

I have been steaming once per week for about four months now and I have noticed a huge shift in how I connect to myself as a woman. I am more aware of my femininity, both physically and spiritually. My cramps have decreased significantly and I find that I am getting much better at working with my instincts and intuition. Yoni steaming as a ritual practice has also brought a certain level of spiritual awareness and stability to my life which makes me feel much more connected to my inner being and to nature and spirit.

BENEFITS OF VAGINAL STEAMING FOR ENDOMETRIOSIS

1. Improves the menstrual cycle

Yoni steaming has the ability to significantly reduce pain, bloating, and exhaustion associated with menstruation, as well as to regulate irregular or absent menstrual cycles. It works like this: after the yoni steam herbs release their cleansing and healing oils into hot water, they are carried via steam to the porous skin of the outer labia, where they are absorbed. The ancient wisdom says that from there, the properties of the plants are carried through the bloodstream into the uterus, where they help to dislodge the stuck material that causes discomfort during menstruation.

2. Heals the womb

Yoni steaming supports the uterus to shed old blood, it can help the miraculous organ to expel any non-essential tissue or cells, including polyps, cysts, or endometrium growing outside the uterus. The result after using yoni steam herbs is a healthier womb, inside and out.

3. Helps with relaxation

If you do yoni steam, you will notice that during those 20-30 minutes you have the ability to focus on your own well-being and go inward. Thanks to all these yoni steam herbs you will experience a powerful release of stored emotions and stress as well. This is an excellent time to reflect, meditate or just write in a journal.

4. Helps to increase fertility

There may be many reasons for fertility challenges, but one of those reasons is induration (hardened lining) and the buildup of old material in the venous lakes (folds) on the uterine walls. By breaking up this excess material and releasing it through menstruation, the uterine walls are prepared for a fertilized egg to attach and thrive. In many cases, this is the missing piece of the preparation for a successful pregnancy.

………and more

  • Cleanse the entire reproductive system
  • Increase of circulation in the reproductive organs/areas
  • Enable the womb to shed unnecessary membranes and buildup
  • Reduce period discomfort by supporting the uterus to function at its best
  • Creates space for blissful relaxation
  • Deeply connects a woman with her source of power
  • Makes sex more juicy
  • Speeds recovery after birth

HOW TO YONI STEAM

It is great to do yoni steam as close to your period as possible. However, if you are being treated for fertility issues and are not taking contraception, only do the steam before you ovulate.

To do your yoni steam you will need your yoni steam herbs mix, boiling water, a bowl, a towel, 20 minutes undisturbed alone time, and a toilet, steaming, or slatted stool.

My personal recommendation is to invest some money in a yoni steam seat. I know that it’s quite expensive but once you have it, you will use it forever! It took me a couple of months to decide which steam seat I like, in the end, I bought the Devi Steam Seat. It’s $77 I know…but it’s worth it! It’s comfortable and easy to use.  This is the best value for money!

There are several herbs that can be used in your own homemade yoni steam. If desired, you can add certain gemstones and crystals for further healing purposes. Usually, I use the herbs below.

  • Chickweed
  • Myrrah
  • Yarrow
  • Squawvine
  • White Sage
  • Witch Hazel leaves
  • Rose Hip
  • Calendula
  • Juniper berry
  • Lavender
  • Rosemary

Heat up about 6 cups of water. Remove the water from heat, add your herbs and cover with a lid. Let the herbs steep for about 10 minutes. If the water has gotten cold, heat it back up, then transfer the pot to your yoni steam station.

Yoni steam herbs can be used twice. If you plan to reuse your herbs, remove them from the pot before steaming them and store them in the refrigerator.

Then you sit on a yoni steam seat, and a combination of infrared and mugwort steam cleanses your uterus, et al. It is an energetic release—not just a steam douche—that balances female hormone levels.

At the end of my 20 minutes, I stand up and have a distinct feeling of emptiness. Not in a scary way but in a calming way. I feel good, empty, and just a little bit better than other people. It’s almost like I can hear a voice whispering into my vagina. “You are living your best life, Lora.”

It is a wonderfully warming and relaxing experience, just the two of you enjoying each other’s company

Give it a try and see whether it makes a difference to your cycle complaints or period pain. Tell me how do you experience it!

xo,

Lora

Wow! I’ve suffered from endometriosis. I’ve since gone on hormonal birth control to stop my periods to avoid dealing with it. I wish I heard about this sooner.

  2. Lora says:

I know how you feel. I’ve also gone on hormonal treatment to stop my periods, which was three years ago, for six months, after the surgery. But that isn’t a cure, it’s just a temporary relief. After the last injection, I started with yoni steaming. I was sure that I can help my body through natural treatments. And yoni steaming really helped me. I got pregnant and now I have a baby girl. 🙂

  3. Lora says:

You should definitely try more natural treatments. It takes more time. You need to know what works for you and makes you feel better 🙂

Somhu! So based on what I just read I should probably stoped hormonal treatment before steaming for endometriosis?

  6. Shannon says:

Hi! I see the list of herbs that you mentioned, do you use all of them them once or a mixture of a few? Would be curious on what blend you use cause Id love to try but only have a few of the herbs mentioned 🙂

  7. Lora says:

    Hey Shannon,
there are plenty of herbs you can use for yoni steaming, and it’s not necessary to use all of them. Below are some examples:
Herbs that support the urinary and reproductive organs:
Raspberry Leaf, Motherwort, Peony, Damiana, Oregano, and Basil

Herbs that are tonifying, tightening, and drying:

Witch Hazel, Yarrow, Rose and Juniper

    Herbs that soothe moisturize:

Comfrey, Marshmallow, Plantain, and seaweeds such as kombu and bladderwrack are added for their mucilaginous quality, which can aid in softening and cleansing, as well as their rich mineral content. Yoni steams can bring deep healing, moisturizing, and warmth to your pelvis.

Hi Lora, Id like to make a yoni steal blend specific to relieving endometriosis pain for my sons girlfriend (fiancé). I saw your list of herbs.. and am wondering 1) how much of each? 2) is the myrrh in powder or oil form? (Its a resin so leaves are not possible.. or do u suggest the leaves from the tree?) 3) do you use all the herbs listed or only some? (& if so.. which are your favorite?) 4) are there any that should be “used with caution”?

My sons fiancé suffers endometriosis symptoms mightily.. so in addition to pain relief.. I’m hopeful this will help heal her so she wont suffer miscarriages once they are married..

    Thanks for your input! 😃
