I had been wanting to make my own easy homemade lotion for some time. I really wanted to make a homemade body lotion for glowing skin. Winter and cold weather really suck all the moisture out of me, especially my hands.
I more or less only use own homemade body lotion as a moisturizer. I massage it into the body skin and on the hands just right after my shower or whenever I need my skin to feel hydrated and happy, and to be glowing of course. It’s very rich and lasts long too. It’s also perfect for your face.
It is also great for baby skin, eczema, sunburns. That’s why I love soooo much this homemade body lotion for glowing skin!
I created this awesome smelling easy homemade lotion recipe because I am a lotion junkie! I love it – yummy smelling lotions. And this is the best smelling body lotion ever!
If you follow my blog series, you’ve probably seen that I had a lot of skin problems in the past. All these skin issues are because of the endometriosis. I wrote a full article about that and how to take care of your skin all naturally. So, having my own easy homemade lotion recipe was very important for me.
So, back to the lotions….I have them everywhere – in my bathroom, in my car, in my bag….
I like to have a homemade lotion that will keep my skin feeling moisturized for hours…and of course, it needs to smell A-MAZING!!! So I thought I do some experimenting and see if I could create my own easy homemade lotion. One of my favorite lotions smells is coconut almond (yes I like to imagine I’m on a tropical beach) so … that I’m LOVING!
And bonus! This homemade lotion recipe uses essential oils! There are so many fascinating properties of essential oils. Not only do they smell amazing, but they can also actually help rejuvenate your skin too.
How to make body lotion from scratch
Making your own body lotion is not difficult at all. And this is a super easy homemade lotion recipe.
What I love about this homemade body lotion for glowing skin is that the recipe is easily customizable. This homemade body lotion recipe uses ingredients that are already shelf-stable. As such, you can store yours for about six months.
You won’t believe how easy this is to make! This is a homemade lotion with coconut oil. I’m a HUGE fan of coconut oil. I love slathering it on after a hot bath or shower. I have really dry skin, especially in the winter, and my skin just loves to soak up the coconut oil. But for this easy homemade lotion recipe, I use also shea butter and cocoa butter.
I’ve bought so many lotions and creams in my life, but have really wanted to go to make homemade lotion myself.
I have this ridiculous bent towards DIY stuff.
I can’t stand forking out a ton of money for something when I can make it for a fraction of the cost myself.
Now, that doesn’t mean that I am opposed to buying high-quality things.
Of course, using homemade is more than worth it, since you get great results without all the harmful chemicals seeping into your skin. It’s worth dealing with a few little quirks to improve your health and that of your family.
You will love this easy body lotion for glowing skin because it is:
– super easy to make (no fancy tools–just melt, stir and pour)
– smells great
– has flexible ingredients (so you can pretty much use what you have on hand)
How to choose essential oils for your lotion recipes:
This easy homemade lotion recipe for glowing skin uses essential oils. While they aren’t necessary, adding them can turn your butter from being simply moisturizing to something that really addresses what is going on with your skin.
Dry or aging skin? Try rose and geranium
Need to be energized and refreshed? Try lavender, lemon, and grapefruit
Troubled skin like psoriasis or eczema? Try helichrysum, frankincense, lavender, sandalwood, chamomile, rose or jasmine
Want to avoid Stretch Marks? Try helichrysum, lavender, patchouli, neroli, rose, and geranium
For essential oils, use whatever you like with the suggestions above being good for different issues. I used rose, orange, which was really heavenly smelling, especially combined with the fragrance of the coconut oil. Somehow I felt like a creamsicle :-). I use also Lavander, which is very soothing, and geranium.
Don’t be scared if you miss some of the ingredients for this easy homemade lotion recipe. If you are out of cocoa butter you can use extra coconut oil and shea butter.
Here are my favorites:
If you get blazing hot in the summer as we do, you can store your whipped lotion in the fridge as coconut oil will start to melt. The cold lotion feels amazing on your hot skin.
This easy homemade lotion is a great gift idea too – perfect for mother’s day, birthdays, Christmas…
