Remember, beauty begins on the inside. If you want a clear, radiant complexion, shiny skin, and strong nails, you have to start with what you’re putting into your body. Here are the best foods for healthy skin, as well as the reasons for their beautifying effects.
PIN IT FOR LATER!
If you’re not eating right, your skin is the first to show it. If you’re constantly breaking out, or you feel that your skincare routine isn’t working, try incorporating these foods into your diet to keep your skin clear.
It’s not only about your skincare routine, but it’s also about what to eat for clear skin.
HOW TO GET CLEAR SKIN NATURALLY
Our skin is the biggest and the most important organ in our body. So taking care of our skin should be priority number one, especially during summer.
When it’s hot your body needs more foods containing antioxidants and anti-inflammatory agents.
The reason is: the sun is very dangerous.
Sunlight not only causes oxidative stress but makes essential nutrients disappear from the skin.
When the skin is depleted from essential nutrients like vitamin C it starts to look older.
That’s why we need to keep track of how much time we spend underneath the burning sun, but also how to follow a clear skin diet. There are so many foods good for skin out there.
There’s nothing we want more than a clear, glowing complexion. But it seems that no matter how many skincare products promise to deliver our hopes and dreams, it seems that the real cure is a healthy balanced lifestyle.
You’re probably wondering what to eat for clear skin? If you’re a beauty junkie like me, you’ll be surprised to hear that 90% of your skin’s appearance comes from the inside out.
THE BEST FOODS FOR HEALTHY SKIN
What we put on our plates has an enormous effect on not only our energy level and mood but also our skin. While there are certain foods to avoid for clear skin (they can trigger inflammation, dehydrate us, or spike our blood sugar levels), others, I call them the best foods for healthy skin, can fight free-radical damage, boost collagen production, and alleviate acne.
Berries, such as blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, or goji berries, are packed with antioxidants that help protect your skin against free radicals. They’re also full of fiber, which helps regulate your blood sugar levels – plus they’re great for breakfast! Kickstart your mornings with a berry smoothie or use berries as oatmeal’s topping.
Berries are not only super delicious – they’re also high in vitamin C and polyphenols, which makes them the best food for healthy skin.
Eating berries is a good way to keep your skin on the safe side and protected from skin cancer, wrinkles, and premature aging overall.
Turmeric does wonders for soothing inflammation and has also been shown to support proper brain function and improve your immune system. Consume it with warm water to balance your skin’s natural flora and protect your skin cells against free radicals.
Turmeric is also great for fighting acne. Turmeric is a natural antiseptic so it helps keep bacteria from spreading, therefore reducing your breakouts. Try it in a cup of tea or blend it into a smoothie.
Rich in vitamins A, C, and K, tomatoes are ideal to add to your diet for healthy skin. Tomatoes also contain lycopene, a powerful antioxidant that defends your skin against aging.
4. Leafy Greens
Leafy greens like kale and spinach are also a terrific way to get some extra antioxidants for healthy skin cells. They provide the body with vitamin A, which works against dry, flaky skin; vitamin C, which undoes the sun’s damage to collagen and elastin; and vitamin E, which helps fight against inflammation. Furthermore, leafy greens contain folate, a nutrient necessary for DNA repair.
Spinach is one of the most powerful greens you can find. It’s an antioxidant powerhouse and works to delay the aging process and protect skin cells from free radical damage. (The kind of damage that gives you wrinkles.)
Kale is an amazing source of iron and vitamin C, which encourages your skin to produce collagen and fights off wrinkles. Add to your daily juice and combine with spinach, apple, and carrot for a real skin treat.
Basil is one of the best herbs in the world. This holly leaf has powerful anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antiseptic properties.
It has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant skills – that’s why it can actually do a tremendous job at protecting and regenerating your skin during the summertime.
High in vitamin A, potassium, sodium, calcium, magnesium, and vitamin E, beetroot can be a blood purifier. It cleanses the body from skin-scarring toxins and protects the skin from neutralizing free radicals that cause wrinkles and sagging.
Can’t get enough of avocado toast? Get ready to eat even more of it because avocados are great for your skin! Avocados are rich in fatty acids and their natural oils deeply hydrate the skin, making them the perfect food additions for those with dry or dehydrated skin.
8. Brazil nuts
Selenium, found in Brazil nuts, is another powerful antioxidant that helps protect the skin from free radicals. Not only that, but studies have shown selenium can help to clear skin, reducing the risk of breakouts, and decreasing acne.
Lemon is a powerful way to help your body detox and eliminate waste. It cleanses the liver and helps to build up new enzymes to eliminate toxins in your blood. The result is a clear, radiant complexion. Start your day with a squeeze of lemon in a warm glass of water.
An omega-3 fatty acid called ALA helps protect your skin from sun radiation and improve smoothness.
Flaxseeds not only keep skin redness and itchiness under control, but they also build up skin’s hydration levels.
AND DON’T FORGET
Another thing to not forget during summer for great skin is to DRINK WATER! After all, if you’re dehydrated your skin will also be and that’s a good start for a wrinkle.
While eating healthy is very important for your skin health, don’t forget to use only natural cosmetics for your skin. If you want to start making your own body butter and lotions check out my favorite homemade body recipes.
