If you are not a morning person and you don’t have such a thing as a morning routine, I totally get you.

I wasn’t a morning person either.

Actually, I was one of those people who enjoy their nightlife, having fun with friends, drinking, dancing…all those cool stuff. But that was a long time ago, hah.

Over the past year or so I’ve developed some habits and rituals in my morning routine. Here are my 7 healthy morning rituals to start your day on the right track!

What are healthy morning rituals and why you should have yours?

First thing first.

A ritual is not the same as a routine. A morning routine might involves exercises or yoga, showering, dressing, etc.

A morning ritual can be very simple – from a 10-minute meditation set, to planning your goals for the next day, or preparing your favorite tea.

How you start your day impacts the rest of your day:

  • your mood
  • how much you get done
  • your goals and dreams

Your morning rituals help awaken your minds and get a fresh start.

How do you make morning rituals?

While you probably have a few more things you do every morning (like drinking coffee or tea, and brushing your teeth), you may experiment and include some healthy morning rituals to start your day right.

I’ve developed a few morning rituals that have become an essential part of my mornings. I truly believe that these healthy morning rituals have a huge positive impact on my day.

My days are really busy and messy. I work from home while taking care of my two years old girl. Sometimes I struggle to be productive and stay focus for a couple of hours while my little girls is sleeping.

But doing these healthy morning rituals each day helps me start my day on the right foot, stay calmer and positive.

Over the past few years I’ve realised that rushing everything, including waking up in the morning and having fast breakfast, make my more stressed and definately not productive at all.

Today I want to challenge you to slow down and think about your mindset and self-care habits. Slow down and take some time for yourself to practice these healthy morning rituals.

7 Healthy morning rituals to start your day right

1. Morning walk

The first thing I do in the morning after my alarm goes off is 20-minutes walk in the park with my dog. No matter what’s the weather outside I just put on some clothes and enjoy the morning freshness and positive vibes in the park.

But if you don’t have a dog you can still go for a walk by yourself. Listen to your favorite music or podcast and spend 20 minutes outside.

2. Green tea

When I’m back at home, I always drink a cup of warm green tea to detoxify my body and my mindset.

There is nothing like a cup of green tea to calm the senses. Thanks to the small amount of caffeine it contains, green tea benefits you by delivering a crucial boost to drive you to end the day.

3. Make Coffee and Meditate

My third morning rituals is meditation.

But I can’t do without my morning cup of coffee.

What if we made this ritual something more?

I’ve recently been exploring the idea of turning anything into a practice in meditation. In this case, making your morning cup of coffee can be the perfect opportunity to clear your mind and mentally prepare yourself for the rest of the day.

In the summer I do this sitting up right on my balcony because that’s where I’m more comfortable. But in the winter, when it’s bloody cold here I do my morning meditation lying in bed. But you can practice meditation everywhere.

I usually do about 10 minutes, but even taking a couple fo deep breathes can be a great way to start your day. I usually use a meditation app ( I like both headspace, and calm) to follow a guided meditation.

Here is why I meditate with my first coffee

HAVING COFFEE IT’S A KIND OF DAILY RITUAL THAT IS DONE WITH MY FRIENDS, MY FAMILY AND MORE OFTEN – WITH MYSELF, WHEN I’M ALONE AT HOME WITH BOOKS AND MUSIC.

I’m a coffee lover.

I’m in love with coffee.

I have always loved the taste of coffee – it was never something I had to acquire the taste for or get used to. I appreciate the taste of coffee without any creamers or sugar.

Now, don’t get me wrong…I do love coffee for the caffeine it provides! Somedays coffee really is the only thing that can get me up and feeling like I can accomplish my dreams and goals.

4. Morning Yoga (or exercises)

It doesn’t really matter what types of activity you do in the morning just do something.

I start each day with 30-40 minutes of yoga practice. Since I still find myself a beginner, I always follow some yoga videos. Lately, I’m totally obsessed with Tim Senesi and his free online yoga classes.

Even if you have only 10-15 minutes in the morning for exercising, do some stretching or a jumping-jacks.

From my personal experience, my morning yoga practice is much better with these following tools :

Pretty Yoga Mat

Yoga Blocks and Straps

5. Morning shower + Body Scrub (the shower essential)

A hot shower or bath in the morning is a calming way to start your day.

I’ve always used my shower time as a little ‘break’ from life.

These days during self-isolation and staying at home, I REALLY look forward to my shower as a way to unplug from basically everything, and really spend this daily ritual taking care of myself and enjoying it.

1. Body Scrub Before You Turn On the Water

So I do this right before I turn on the shower water on my dry body. I make my own skincare products so I just pick one of my favorite body scrubs (cellulite busting ginger body scrub or coffee and honey body scrub) and scrub my body for literally three minutes before I turn on the shower water.

Exfoliating has many benefits, including removing dead skin cells and promoting new cell growth. While it’s good for your skin, it’s important to not overdo it.

2. Finish with 10 Seconds Cold Shower (or even more if you feel comfortable)

I really love taking how water shower but lately I try to experiment with some cold water at the end of my morning shower.

An early morning cold shower might sound horrible, but it’s a great way to shake yourself awake and make you focus on the day ahead.

Warm showers usually help reduce your blood pressure and help you relax.

A cold shower, on the other hand, will boost your immunity, pump your blood pressure higher, reduce stress and perhaps even make you burn fat faster.

It’s a great way to start the day if you can get accustomed to it.

3. Massaging Body Lotion After You Dry Off Your Skin

So I’m always DIY skincare (vs. store-bought luxury skincare products full with toxins). Massaging your body with body lotion or body butter really increases the hydration of your largest organ (your skin).

6. Breakfast

Breakfast is one of my favorite meals of the day.

The trick to having a productive day is to start your morning with a healthy breakfast full of protein, good fats and complex carbohydrates.

Usually for breakfast I prepare smoothie or a smoothie bowl with banana, berries, protein powder, flax seed, cocoa, plant-based milk or coconut yogurt. Just combine your favorite ingredients and enjoy your healthy and nutritional breakfast.

7. Clean my workspace

No matter if you work from home or no, you need a clean workspace.

I’m a messy person and I’m happy with that. But when it comes to my workplace I like it well organized and clean.

No food (maybe just my favorite water bottle), cables in the right place and so on.

This is really helping me to have a more productive morning routine because starting the day with cleaning is not my ideal morning routine.

What should be my morning routine

When talking about morning routine there are no rules. The best morning routine is the one that’s perfectly tailored to you.

If you search online you’ll find a lot of morning routine ideas, as well as examples of great and well organize morning routines. But the truth is that no one can tell you what is ‘the perfect morning routine’ for you but you.

We are all different.

What works for me may not work for you. So, listen to your body, do what makes you happy and gives you positive mindset.

Your morning rituals should energize you. You should feel excited and looking forward to doing it.

Self-care should be practiced every day. These 5 healthy morning rituals will help you start a daily self-care routine and help you create easy healthy habits to integrate into your daily life!

But if you’re curious about what makes me happy and what I’m doing every morning here is the morning routine that changed my life.

xo,

Lora
